ECOMOTIE

Storytelling. Stimulating imagination. Visions for the future.

About Ecomotie

What could be more fun than bringing people together around powerful stories? To sketch images of a good life that make us want to put in the work? To gain insight into how the world used to be, and what positive initiatives are happening now, so that we can outline hopeful paths to the future?

What Ecomotie does

Ecomotie offers a range of activities.
We are best known for the city walks in Ghent. The first one we developed and still offer is about social policy over the centuries. Because even the medieval city already had social services, but very different ones from those of today.
Meanwhile, we are best known for the city walks (and walking guide) Hunger for Ghent. While walking, we tell how Ghent, as a great city in earlier times – the 14th and 19th centuries – provided itself with food and (delicious) drinks. Without a fridge or microwave. Discover what used to be on the plate, and what not.
Ecomotie also actively contributes to a better future. We want to identify and promote promising initiatives in the field of agriculture and food in the Ghent region. We are convinced that the food and agriculture system can be a lever in the transition to a sustainable future.
Furthermore, we offer expertise on tilting towards a sustainable future and what that means for organisations and society.

Walking guide ‘Honger naar Gent’

Honger naar Gent (Hunger for Ghent) is a reading and walking guide that lets you get to know Ghent from the lens of food. A few months after its publication, the book won the award for ‘most educational book of the year’. And more and more readers continue to discover it – we are at the fourth edition – a unique success for a book published in-house. The book takes you through two crucial periods of Ghent. On the basis of clear maps, fascinating texts and nice photos, you will dive into history.
